Steven Sohnle Is Proudly Offering In-Person And Online Therapy In Somerville, NJ Steven Sohnle In Somerville, NJ

ABOUT

Since becoming a licensed psychologist in 2001 I have remained closely in touch with research-supported developments in psychotherapy. I have learned much from my clients and colleagues about helping people like you make positive changes and overcome challenges (anxiety, interpersonal issues, lack of self-acceptance, etc.) to create the lives they want. If you're dealing with anxiety or depression, or struggling with major challenges or unexpected changes, I can help.

CLIENTS I SERVE

My clients range from college-aged adults to retirees and include people with anxiety, chronic health issues, severe insomnia, difficulty with planned and unplanned life changes, job and career stress, and many other concerns. I also work with medical and mental health professionals.

THERAPEUTIC STYLE

Good therapy is never a "one size fits all" enterprise. As I learn about your life and what matters most to you, we'll work together to craft a therapy unique to your needs. I begin with an old-school approach of getting to know you as a person and then offer cutting-edge therapy supported by research. I'll show you what works to get to where you want to be.

QUALIFICATIONS

I am board certified as a clinical psychologist by the American Board of Professional Psychology and currently serve as an examiner for board certification candidates. I am also a diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and am listed on the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. An educator of health and mental health professionals, I serve on the clinical faculty of Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I began training as a therapist in 1995 and have never stopped learning through formal and informal training and supervision as well as consultation with colleagues. I hold a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I completed an internship in clinical psychology and postdoctoral fellowship in geropsychology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical school. I have served in a number of leadership roles including Principal Investigator/Administrator for the COPSA Institute for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Now Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences) and I was the Director of Counseling and Psychiatric Services for the more than 40,000 students of Rutgers-New Brunswick.

I've learned that a great way to maintain a high skill level as a therapist is to teach new therapists and so I very much enjoy providing clinical supervision and lectures to doctoral students at Rutgers Student Health and previously served as a supervisor for Rutgers Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology.

I have published research and presented symposia at national conferences including the annual convention of the American Psychological Association.

SCHEDULING

I offer in-person and telehealth sessions. The first step is a brief call (fifteen minutes, no fee, no obligation) through which I can learn about your needs and you can learn about my practice. If we agree that my approach could be helpful to you, we'll schedule an evaluation. Feel free to call or text (732) 301-4102 with questions.
